Some gatherings don’t just share ideas—they shift how people see their work and each other. The 2026 Braiding Knowledges Canada Gathering held March 4-6 at Wanuskewin Heritage Park created that kind of space. Across disciplines and perspectives, participants came together to braid knowledges, learn from one another, and strengthen collective capacity to address some of Canada’s most pressing challenges

Canada’s Nature Strategy and Indigenous-Led Conservation

BKC welcomes Canada’s recent Nature Strategy, A Force of Nature, and its strengthened commitment to biodiversity conservation across the country. The strategy includes expanded investment in Indigenous Guardians programs, a dedicated Arctic Indigenous Guardians Program, and federal investments in Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs), reinforcing Indigenous leadership in land and water stewardship.

This direction aligns with our work in IPCAs, Indigenous Guardians initiatives, Indigenous-led and co-led research, and land-based approaches grounded in community priorities and knowledge systems.
