University of Alberta / BKC MOOC Sneak Peek

BKC is proud to collaborate with the University of Alberta working on an upcoming Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on the braiding of knowledges. We're excited to give you a glimpse behind the scenes with BKC's Co-Research Directors, Dr. Murray Humphries and Dr. Paulina Johnson, as they support this initiative. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Samson Cree Nation for their collaboration and the opportunity to participate in their annual powwow ceremony earlier this month.

Call for Papers: Mountain Tourism

What are current trends in mountain tourism and how do they impact mountain regions? How can tourism be codeveloped to benefit mountain livelihoods while protecting mountain heritage? Mountain Research and Development invites empirical analyses of tourism trends and impacts, systematic assessments of solutions for sustainable tourism, and review-based agendas for future tourism policy, action, or research. Notices of intent are due by 15 November 2024, full papers by 1 April 2025.

Wildfire & Water: Community Monitoring in Action

Living Lakes Canada’s second issue of the Watershed Bulletin series, delves into the intersection of wildfire suppression and the use of Columbia Basin Water Monitoring Framework data in a hands-on project. The project serves as a prime example of an on-the-ground watershed security project, where community-based water monitoring and local consultation are at the heart of the initiative.

Mountain Future Award 2024

To celebrate International Mountain Day 2024, the Mountain Partnership Secretariat at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) invites institutions and individuals over 18 to submit proposals for transformative projects. Winning projects will receive seed funding of USD 5 000 and project incubation assistance from the FAO Mountain Partnership Secretariat. This is your chance to win the 2024 Mountain Future Award!

Black and Indigenous Scholars Award in Mammalogy

The Black and Indigenous Scholars Award in Mammalogy is accepting applications for awards of up to $1500 to support the further development of mammalogy by Black/African American, African, and Indigenous individuals.

Award is targeted at research and activities related to mammals. There are no thematic limits to this award; research on ecology, behavior, biogeography, genomics, physiology, taxonomy, or any other arena is acceptable.

Application Deadline: 15 October, 2024

 

Arctic Frontiers Emerging Leaders Program!

The program centers around an annual theme and includes a 7-day trip through the Norwegian high North landscape, meeting with local representatives of different sectors and engaging in timely discussions of current visions, trends and challenges in the Arctic. The Emerging Leaders program will run from January 23rd-30th, 2025. This year’s theme is A Healthy Arctic.
